How to Choose a Wedding Cake
TIP: A delicious wedding cake will make the perfect end to the perfect night
Wedding cakes are full of traditions and choices. Everyone looks forward to the cutting of the cake and waits eagerly to see if there will be any face smashing, cute cuddling or finger licking good action to be caught on film. But even more so they look forward to taking a bite of the delicious (hopefully) dessert. With so many options and no true right or wrong, there are so many options it can be confusing and difficult to decide what you want. Here are some tips to make the process easier.
- Look through magazines: Search through magazines and find photos of your favorite wedding cake designs. Tear out all your favorites. Choose design elements you like.
- Consider your guests: If you will have lots of small children at the wedding you won’t want to choose something old fashioned like a carrot cake that most young ones won’t even touch. Instead you’d want to choose a vanilla, strawberry or chocolate filling. So think about who will be eating the cake and take their tastes into account.
- Decorations and color: Fresh flowers, ribbons, fondant décor….the possibilities are endless. Decide what you want. Also consider the use of color to make the cake pop and stand out more. Have these colors coordinate with the wedding colors and you’ll be throwing one suave bash.
- Think about your budget: Wedding cakes can be costly and all those little extra details add up. If you don’t have a bid budget for the cake consider cutting out the fondant décor and lighting. Instead add your own flower petals the day of the reception and wrap twinkle Christmas light around the plates, it will be lovely.
- Other alternatives: Go to your local bakery and make a cupcake tower or have freshly baked cookies or pre-packaged cookies cut out in the shape of wedding bells, rings or doves.
