How to Make Your Own Wedding Bouquets

TIP: Wedding bouquets are expensive. Cut costs by making your own . It's easy and fun!

Weddings are expensive no matter how you look at it. One of the big expenses are the wedding flowers. Flowers are pricey on their own, but add in a florist who creates the displays and bouquets and your bill suddenly skyrockets. One way to cut down on costs is to make your own bouquets, even corsages and boutonnieres. All you need for the bouquets are some floral tape, scissors, the flowers and filler, ribbon and hot glue.

Bride with beautiful bouquetStart by selecting your flowers. Choose something that will last through a couple of long days and changing conditions (inside, outside, hot, cold, etc.). Arrange your flowers so they have different levels and focal points. If you have allĀ  the same flower then just arrange it as you see fit. Tape the stems together a couple inches below the base of the flowers. Cut off the ends of the stems to your desired length. Be sure to cut the stems at an angle as this will allow them to absorb more water and stay as fresh as possible.

Next arrange your fillers behind the flowers. You can use baby’s breath, leaves, berries or other plants to add some zest and life to the bouquet. Position the filler so it is an inch to an inch and a half higher up that the tip of the flowers. This creates some depth and levels which highlights the flowers. Tape these stems to the already taped flowers. Cut off the stems to the same length as those of the flowers.

Select a wide ribbon that is either white or coordinates with your wedding colors. Take one end and dab a bit of hot glue on the edge. Press the edge firmly against the floral tape on the stems. Hold in place until it dries. Wrap the ribbon around the stems until they are covered and no floral tape is visible. Cut off the end of the ribbon and glue in place. That’s it! It’s that easy. Store in water or wrap the ends and flowers with wet paper towels to keep fresh.
