Gone Are the Days of a Need of Medium and Large Format Cameras

Although camera equipment these days is still pricey, the need for large format gear is long gone. In fact, that heavy artillery is cumbersome, annoying and heavy. Many camera manufacturers sell premium quality SLRs, making it more realistic for beginning and medium priced photographers to stand against fair competition among equally equipped photographers.

Now it's more about composition skill that separates a tech- savvy photographer from the photo buff-turned-pro. Each years technology advancements mean more people jumping on the bandwagon for the switch to digital. As a wedding photographer for many years, I must admit that I bucked the whole digital revolution in the beginning. I turned my nose up at it like it was just a new fad. My film camera was just fine. It was high-end professional Canon equipment.

Why buy new stuff just because everyone else is?

My photography friends complained of long hours editing images in Photoshop, a tedious task for which I dreaded and did not see a need for. With a big sigh, I finally caved in after losing a couple of weddings to photographers who were shooting digital. Often times I could still outsell their skills with my talented portfolio and explanation of why film was still better.

It all boiled down to the quality of the pictures and the megapixels of the camera. I could still justify my film cameras. However, as each year passed and newer, more advanced technology increased the quality of the digital cameras, I finally broke down and bought one.
