List of Recommended Wedding Photos

Handing a Photographer a Laundry List of Photos is much like Telling Your Dentist How to Clean Your Teeth.

Are you a note taker? List maker? you'll find a number of magazines and guides that offer suggested photos that you will want to ask the photographer to take at your wedding. A word of caution the photographer should already know much of this list! You should not have to ask him or her to be there to take a picture of obvious things, like cutting the cake or walking down the aisle.

Most true professional photographers already know what pictures they should take at your wedding. They already know the order of events and the way things go, so you should trust that the professional you hired will be knowledgeable and do his/her job accordingly. As a matter of fact, since you've likely never done this before, keep in mind that any questions you have along the way can be answered by your photographer.

If you're not sure what to do next, just ask! The photographer will make you feel comfortable and will lead things along in a timely manner. Remember the orchestra conductor? Just follow along and your wedding day will be like a fine symphony.

It would be wise to sit down with your photographer before the wedding and discuss the types of pictures he will be taking, and roughly how many of each. Don't be shy to let him know specifically and exactly what you want. Present him with a "wish list". Or, show him this list and ask, Are there any photos on this list that you do not normally take? Also make note of any extra items that would not be on the list.

As an example, if your groom and all of his college buddies have not seen each other for six years but theyll all be there together, make sure you tell the photographer so that he or she can arrange for that to happen.
